Chance Cassidy scored 25 points to lead Glencoe over White Plains in Northeast Sub-regional boys basketball action on Feb. 17, 71-61.

Cassidy and White Plains’ Jaylen Hill engaged in a fourth quarter shootout, with each netting 12 and ten points, respectively.

When White Plains was forced to foul, it was Cassidy who stepped up for the Yellow Jackets. The senior point guard calmly sank 12-of-12 free throws in the fourth quarter to ice the Wildcats.

“Chance did a great job on the line for us tonight,” Glencoe head coach Ryan Barkley said. “When the game is on the line and it’s win or go home, you put the ball in the hands of one of your best players.”

Glencoe scored the first eight points of the game. White Plains tied the game,10-10, before the Yellow Jackets pulled head to take an 18-12 lead at the end of the first quarter.

White Plains outscored Glencoe in the second quarter but the Yellow Jackets retained the lead at intermission, 29-26.

Hill netted 12 points in the third quarter for White Plains, but Glencoe retained the lead, 48-40, heading into the final frame.

“Hill is good,” Barkley added. “He will get his points. You don’t stop him, you just try to slow him down.”

Hill scored a game high 30 points, while Cassidy netted 25 for Glencoe.

Christopher Tinker netted 16 points for the Yellow Jackets and Devonta Toles scored 12.

Chris Major and Dylan Randall scored 11 and 10, respectively, for White Plains.

The win gave the Yellow Jackets a berth in the Northeast Regional basketball tournament at Jacksonville State University. Glencoe (21-8) will face Sylvania (20-11) on Wednesday, Feb. 22 at 7:30 p.m.

“Most people expect the Glencoe Yellow Jackets to make it to Jacksonville each year,” said Barkley. “This has been a Glencoe tradition for a long time and I am proud of this team.”
