Hokes Bluff won its second softball game of the season, defeating Gadsden City on March 20, 13-3.

Hokes Bluff’s Chelsea Machleit got the first hit of the game with a single up the middle. Carlie Shields’ sacrifice scored Malchleit, giving the Lady Eagles a 1-0 lead.

Gadsden City scored two runs in the third inning to take a 2-1 lead.

Hokes Bluff added three runs in the fourth inning to take a 4-2 lead.

Consecutive hits by Savannah Ward and Shields in the fifth inning paced Hokes Bluff to five runs to secure the win.

Ward and Shields combined for three runs and three RBIs, respectively. Courtney Pierce ended the day with 6 strikeouts and a double. While Lark Cole went a 4-for-4 with three runs and two RBI’s in the win.

“I thought we played great to start, but our mistakes snowballed on us and we just didn’t recover,” Gadsden City head coach Kevin Young said. “Hokes Bluff played good game. Cassie [Underwood] threw strikes, but the scoreboard doesn’t reflect the toughness that both teams played with today.”

“I’m very proud of the way we played today and how we hit the ball hopefully we can change things around and become eligible for the postseason” said Hokes Bluff head coach Roseanne Stone.

Hokes Bluff improved its record to 2-10, while Gadsden City dropped to 3-10.
