There’ll be a homecoming of sorts in this game as Munford High is now coached by former Hokes Bluff player Will Wagnon. Wagnon has been heading up the Lions since 2010 and has an 11-15 record so far.
“Will’s done a good job down there, getting them competitive again,” Eagles coach Mike Robertson said. “They’ve had some problems, losing close games this year. But he’s got them headed in the right direction.”
The Lions were 3-7 in Wagnon’s first season. They went 5-5 last year and are still in the playoff hunt this year.
“Munford may be the most physical team we’ve faced this year,” Robertson said. “I hope our conditioning helps because they’ll get after you.”
Hokes Bluff is coming off a heartbreaking loss, losing by a field goal when the Eagles had a field goal blocked earlier.
“The kids are taking it like we won,” Robertson said. “They’ve got a great attitude and are practicing for another win, hopefully.”
Against Cleburne County, Chase Beggs rushed for 81 yards on 15 carries, while Brad Robertson completed 12-of-19 passes for 144 yards.
