Southside’s final Class 5A, Region 7 game featured both milestones and disappointment.
The good news was that Panthers set a school record for points in a game and assured the program of its first winning season since 1993.
The bad news was that although Southside took care of its own business with a 63-20 victory over Brewer, Etowah’s win over Boaz dropped the Panthers to the fifth spot in the region and out of the state playoffs.
The Panthers literally ran roughshod over the visitors from Somerville, as four SHS backs topped the 100-yard rushing mark.
Dantley Coker scored four touchdowns for Southside. He finished with 120 yards on 11 carries.
Blake Devine led the Panthers in rushing with 137 yards and two touchdowns on just three carries, while Chase Nobles ran three times for 112 yards and a TD.
Holt Keeling added 100 yards and two touchdowns on five attempts.
Austin Snyder had 11 tackles, two sacks and an interception.
Hunter Armstrong had 10 stops, while Brady Stephens had a pair of sacks.
The Panthers (6-3, 4-3) wind up the season on Friday with a visit to Moody.
