River cleanup drive kicks off on April 29

For the 14th year, Keep Etowah Beautiful is organizing a land and river clean up campaign that takes tons of debris out of the river and off its banks each spring.

KEB Director Lisa Dover said spring is a great time for pitching in and cleaning with the organization’s Great American Cleanup and Renew Our Rivers. The Great American Cleanup, organized locally by KEB is part of a nation’s largest cleanup, beautification and community improvement program. Everyone is invited to join in and help make Etowah County even more beautiful.

Keep Etowah Beautiful’s land cleanup (Great American Cleanup) has kicked off and will go until May 31. Contact your  local city hall to find out if a cleanup is scheduled in their area or they may contact Keep Etowah Beautiful 256-549-0900 to find out how to volunteer for this event. Bags will be available to anyone wishing to help cleanup.

Renew Our Rivers will begin April 29 and continue to May 4. Renew Our Rivers will take place during the week only with no event on Saturday this year.

Supplies for both events were available April 25 at the Gadsden Senior Citizen Building Anyone who did not obtains supplies then can get supplies at the docks. Dover said KEB representatives will be at the Gadsden City Boat Dock April 29 and 30, move to Rainbow Landing May 1 then return to Gadsden’s dock May 3.

Thousands of volunteers have participated and given thousands of hours to help remove trash and debris from Etowah County.  Help Keep Etowah Beautiful and make a difference in your community, Dover said.
