Etowah High School students may purchase lockers and parking decals at the following times: Tues., Aug. 6: seniors, 1-3 p.m.; Wed., Aug. 7: juniors, 8-9:30 a.m. and sophomores, 1-2:30 p.m.; and Thurs., Aug. 8: freshman, 8-11 a.m.    

The City of Rainbow City will pick up household garbage and trash starting at 6 a.m. through Labor Day, Sept. 2.
    
On the first Saturday of every month, Gadsden Regional’s Women’s & Children’s department will conduct free childbirth classes from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Gadsden Regional Room of Building 500 on the GRMC campus. The classes include sessions on infant care with pediatricians; a presentation by Success By 6 on infant and child development; sessions about pain control/ epidurals, labor and delivery, and the post-partum period; information on breast feeding from a lactation consultant; and a tour of the hospital’s Women’s & Children’s unit. Breakfast and lunch are provided and attendees will receive free samples and door prizes. Mothers who plan to deliver at GRMC are welcome to attend and may bring along a guest. Jazzy June has become Musical Mondays. Looking for a jazzy lunchtime? The Water Wall located between the Pitman Theater and Senior Activity Center in downtown Gadsden, is the place to be. Musical Mondays will continue thru mid-September from 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. We invite you to come downtown and join “DJ” Buster every Monday and bring your lunch and your friends.

Gadsden Toastmasters is the local club for Toastmasters International servicing Etowah, Calhoun and Marshall counties. Toastmasters is an excellent way to improve confidence, become a better speaker and gain valuable leadership experience. Club meetings are fun, positive and mutually supportive. The Glencoe Public Library wishes to preserve the past of the City of Glencoe. The library is looking for pictures from the beginning in 1853 (when a quarry began operating at Rock Springs) to the present. The library also is looking for past yearbooks from the early 1930s to the present to add to its current collection. If you have not visited the library, please stop by. The city, the library board and many volunteers have worked to make the library a beautiful place. Then join the Gadsden Public Library in its ongoing effort to preserve the oral history of Gadsden and Etowah County. Interviews are now being conducted. Nichols Memorial Library in Gadsden is open every Thursday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. for anyone interested in family history research. The library contains genealogical information and family files from all areas of Alabama, Georgia, North and South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and other states. The Teen and Children’s department of the Gadsden Public Library will collect gently-used clothing throughout the month July for a back-to-school sale on Aug. 9-11 at the library’s Lena Martin Room from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. The goal of this sale is to provide affordably-priced clothing that may be worn for the upcoming school year. No item will be priced over $5. Money raised at the sale will fund future programming and supplies for both the Children’s Department and the Teen Zone. Please donate gently-used children’s and teen apparel only. All items with holes or stains will be discarded at the library’s discretion. Donations may be dropped off at the GPL Circulation Desk during regular library business hours to Paulette, Chris, Serina or Mary. Goodyear Retiree Club SOAR meetings will be held the first Thursday of each month at 11 a.m. at Local 12 located at 110 Hoke Street in Gadsden. Enjoy monthly entertainment, fellowship, door prizes, travel and pot luck lunches. Annual membership fee is $12 for retiree and $3 for spouse.

The Mental Health America of Etowah County is offering stress and anger management, domestic violence prevention and parenting classes for adults. Certificates will be given upon completion of each course. Instructors are Alicia Harrel, MA and Kelly Clark, LBSW. The total charge for each course is $60. Volunteers are needed at Gadsden Regional Medical Center to serve at the  information desks on the first floor and the second floor surgical waiting room, as well as cart drivers for visitors. You must be 18 or older to volunteer. Candidates must undergo a background check and drug screening. 2 Next Friday is First Friday in Downtown Gadsden. From 6 to 9 p.m. enjoy live entertainment, great food, classic cars and special offers. Downtown merchants will be open late with some great back to school specials and sales.  Food vendors will line the 400 block of Broad Street and downtown restaurants will also offer specials. Starting at around 4:30 p.m., Broad Street will be closed from 1st to 7th streets. Entertainment includes Trading Faces at 5th and Broad, Peanut & Mother May I at BB&T, K.D. Battles at 3rd and Broad and  Brooke Danielle Band at 2nd and Broad. As the events on Broad Street come to a close, head over to the Summer Concert Series at the AMP with Daybreakk! from 9-11 p.m..

3 The Family Success Center will hold a “Cram the Van” event at the Attalla and East Gadsden Wal-Mart locations from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. The principals at the schools will distribute all donated items. Parents need to contact them and let them know that they are in need of assistance with supplies for their children. 5 Are you a writer? Would you like to try writing? If so, join the GPL’s brand new Gadsden Writers. Group meetings will be facilitated by Tabitha Bozeman. All genres are encouraged. 23-25 Etowah County and the Gadsden Chapter SCLC are sponsoring a bus to Washington D.C. for the 50th anniversary of the March of Washington. Bus will depart Friday and return Sunday. The cost will be $190 per person. A deposit of $95 is due by Aug. 2 and the final amount is due by Aug. 15. The deposit will not be refunded after Aug. 10.
