“Get better today.”
That is the message that Etowah High football coach Drew Noles is imparting to his team.
“If we can improve every day, we’re going to do things well,” he said of the Blue Devils. “I mean on and off the field. If we get better today and let the other stuff take care of itself, everything will be okay.”
Etowah continues to show signs of that improvement, but Noles said there’s still a ways to go before he’ll be totally happy with his team.
He said that the offensive line is still improving, as is the quarterback play and the defense.
“We’re close to doing things right but we’ve still got a way to go, if that makes sense,” Noles said.
The Blue Devils get another chance to improve this week in a Class 5A, Region 7 game against the winless Eagles.
“They have the potential to make a big play on every down,” Noles said. “Their running back is a big kid who runs harder than anyone we’ve faced yet. They’ve got some wide receivers who can fly and their defense stunts a lot, causing problems because you don’t know where they’re going to come from.”
Last week against Brewer, Paul Ruiz rushed for 170 yards and two touchdowns.
