The Hokes Bluff Lions have much more than a car show going on Sept. 28 at the Hokes Bluff City Park.
They invite everyone to show off their antique cars, trucks, motorcycles, tractors and specialty vehicles for the charity show, Jerry Heard of the Lions Club said, and to enjoy vendors, food and activities for the children during the 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. event.
“We’ll be sure to get you out in time for the football games,” Heard joked.
The annual Hokes Bluff Lions Club Festival & Car Show will raise money for breast cancer research, sight and community services. Lions club members will be selling tickets for a 50-50 drawing – half of the money from ticket sales will go to the name drawn and the other half will go to the selected charities.
Gates will open at 6 p.m. at the park, located at 5813 Gilliland Street in Hokes Bluff. The event will go on rain or shine.
For those interested in showing a vehicle: Registration is $20 per vehicle For vendors, the fee is $20 per space and you must check in on arrival. Spaces will be assigned on a first come, first served basis. Auto parts, crafts and yard sale items are welcome for vendor spaces, and set up will be on the day of the show only. Heard said there will be a $1,000 money tree for those registering vehicles.
For those who want to come and enjoy the show, a full breakfast will be available from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. and there will be free hot dogs for lunch.
“These ladies put out a really good breakfast for five bucks,” Heard said.
There will be children’s entertainment including balloon animals, face painting, inflatables and train rides.
As a special attraction, Heard said the Gadsden State Show Band will be performing from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Heard said Jim Posey and the staff at Posey’s Big Oak Garage will be judging the car show.
The Lions want to encourage everyone who has a vehicle to enter in the show, and anyone who is looking for a day of fun to come join them.
