First Friday will go pink; Zumba the night away

Downtown merchants are joining forces to Paint the Town Pink for First Friday in October, as part of the month-long national campaign to raise awareness about breast cancer.

Downtown Gadsden Inc. has partnered with patron sponsor Advanced Imaging and invites everyone to wear pink and join in the festivities on Oct. 4 from 6 to 9 p.m.

“First Friday is a great event for families or anyone who enjoys spending time outside in the gorgeous fall weather,” DGI Executive Director Kay Moore said.

“Explore our great shops and boutiques, dine in our local restaurants, visit our local art galleries, enjoy live entertainment and much more for the whole family.”

Entertainment for this month includes:
The Durhams, on the sidewalk at The Pitman;
Foggy Hollow at 5th and Broad;
Matt Harvey Blues Band at BB&T;
The Gypsy Begonias at 3rd and Broad; and
Cheryl’s School of Rock at 2nd and Broad.

As usual there will be a variety of vendors on Broad Street and classic cars to enjoy.

This month a tractor show is an added attraction to First Friday.

This month First Friday features a special event – Stampede the Streets: Zumba Fitness Party will take place on top of the Kerry Wilson Building.

Space is limited for the Zumba party. Sponsors Absolute Fitness, Advanced Imaging, Kerry Wilson Insurance, Perman Engineering and Natural Illusions encourage you to get tickets at Absolute Fitness, from Zumba instructors or at the door.

General entry pink ribbon bracelets are $10; a VIP paracord bracelet is $35 and includes a shirt, a Zumba jingle bracelet and access to the rooftop party ( limited to 25 people). Event t-shirts will be available for purchase.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation and Never Surrender, a local charitable organization that helps to pay for mammograms for people who wouldn’t otherwise be able to afford the diagnostic exams.

Foote Bros. Carpet One invites First Friday attendees to park in their well-lit parking lot to enjoy all of the First Friday festivities-only two blocks away from all the downtown activities.
