Chamber representative Donna Patterson said she’s not sure how The Chamber came to be the place to go for your breast cancer awareness ribbons, but the staff has been happy to oblige.
The staff took time to make up a large number of bows and is making them available for businesses or individuals who want to do their part to publicize the fight against breast cancer.
As part of a campaign to “Paint the Town Pink in October” Chamber representatives encourage you to order your ribbons by calling 256-543-3472, or stopping by the Chamber front office during normal business hours, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Payment for the ribbons is due at pick up or delivery. Cash, checks or credit cards are accepted.
Death rates from breast cancer have been declining since 1989, according to The Chamber’s promotional flyer.
“Those decreases are believed to be the result of earlier detection through screening and increased awareness, as well as improved treatment,’ the flyer reads. “Show your support of breast cancer awareness with the purchase of a pink ribbon from The Chamber.”
A portion of the proceeds will be donated to “Never Surrender” a non-profit that helps pay for mammograms for women and men in Etowah County who could not otherwise afford them.
Small ribbons are approximately 12 inches wide and cost $10; large ribbons are approximately 24 inches wides and cost $15.
