One more game and the Coosa Christian’s football team will have run the gamut.

With the first six games against six powerful teams, coach Scott Clifton hasn’t had a lot of chance to put up a victory. But the Conquerors have also contributed to that, making mistakes at critical points.

“We’re still shooting ourselves in the foot,” Clifton said. “We spotted Gaylesville 20 points early, then played them fairly even. From about the midway point of the second quarter, they scored 20 and we scored 14. And we should’ve had three more touchdowns.”

Valley Head comes in as the leader of Class 1A, Region 7.

“I knew they had a big, strong offensive line that has been together for a few years and has taken its lumps,” Clifton said. “They are really knocking people off the ball.”

The Conquerors currently resides in sixth place in the region standings, but seven teams are above them in the win/loss column.

Last week against Gaylesville, Ben Mills rushed for 175 yards and two touchdowns on 29 carries.

Johnny Grizzard completed 7-of-18 passes for 121 yards. Ben Mills and Jace Mills each had three receptions.

Ben Mills had 15 tackles, followed by Isaac Hamby with 10 and Jace Mills with seven. Ben Mills also had two sacks.
