After a couple of big wins, Southside High’s football team is focused on the job at hand.

They’d better be, as Arab comes in hungry.

“They’re the best team we’ve faced,” Panthers coach Ron Daugherty said. “It may sound like coach-speak but they truly are. They scare us to death.”

Arab has been “in” every game so far but has had some tough breaks. Three of the Knights’s four losses have been by five points or less.

“They’re big, they’re quick and they’re fast,” Daugherty said. “They’re the kind of team that’s liable to turn it around and win six or seven in a row. Something like that wouldn’t surprise me at all.”

As for Southside, a last-second victory last week, coupled with a win over nemesis Fort Payne, can do nothing but boost confidence.

“We’re going to be ready,” Daugherty said. “These big wins are going to make us tougher.”

Last week against Springville, Dantley Coker rushed for 286 yards and two touchdowns.
