The weekly wars continue – as does the hunt for second place in Class 2A, Region 7.

With Fyffe probably going to win the region again, there is a horde of teams fighting for second.

Fyffe and North Sand Mountain currently reside in the top two region spots, with Westbrook, Gaston, Sand Rock and Section creating a four-way tie for third. The Wildcats hold the tiebreaker over Gaston.

“When you play a quality team each week, it makes it more fun and exciting,” Westbrook coach Tony Osborne said. “This region is crowded with good teams.”

The winner of this one gets a leg up on the competition, but with a lot of football left to play, that’s all it does.

The Warriors are coming off a disappointing loss to Gaston.

“That was the first time we had played a team with that much quickness and athleticism,” Osborne said. “It exposed some of our weaknesses and hopefully we can shore those up and improve.”

Meanwhile, Sand Rock comes in after a battle with Fyffe.

“(Sand Rock) is a veteran team,” Osborne said. “They’re big and strong up front and have a balanced offense. And they’re always good on defense.”

Last week against Gaston, Will Appleton completed 15-of-32 passes for 205 yards.
