There’s a new feeling at Coosa Christian this week.

It’s called the smell of victory.

“It’s helped everybody,” Conquerors coach Scott Clifton said. “Winning makes everything look better.”

Coosa won its first game of the season last week, and even though it’s too little too late for the playoffs, the Conquerors are enjoying the winning feeling.

In the win over SMCA, every phase of the game contributed to the scoring.

Ben Mills rushed for 183 yards and two touchdowns, David Kim kicked a 28-yard field goal, Johnny Grizzard returned a kickoff 80 yards for a touchdown and the defense came away with a safety.

The only negative? Mistakes forced three possible touchdowns.

“If we play like we did last week, with no turnovers, I like our chances,” Clifton said. “We had all three phases of the game clicking, so it felt really good to get the win.”

Class 1A, Region 7 rival Jacksonville Christian comes in with a strong offense that is led by quarterback Daylon Brackett.

“He’s got a good arm and if he gets outside, he’s capable of beating you with his legs,” Clifton said. “We’ve got to contain him and make him throw the ball.”
