Lee Ozmint said that he is confident in this week’s game “if the players take care of the ball and do what they’ve been coached to do.”
Glencoe High is facing a hard-luck Susan Moore football team that has had its chances.
“They’ve been competitive in every game this year,” Ozmint said. “They’re young and are seeing the fine line between winning and losing. I hope they don’t cross that line this week, because we need the win.”
A Yellow Jackets victory will keep them in the race for a playoff spot but a Susan Moore win might well compromise Glencoe’s postseason hopes.
With tiebreakers over Cleveland and White Plains, the Jackets currently are in fourth place in the Class 3A, Region 6 standings.
“We’ve got to play better,” Ozmint said. “(Susan Moore) has a good quarterback who has a strong arm and a good head for the game. He doesn’t make stupid mistakes. They have a lot of wide receivers who can catch the ball and they have some good, physical running backs.”
Last week against Cleveland, Pace Ozmint had 11 tackles (two for a loss), an interception and batted away the potential game-tying two-point conversion pass in the game’s final seconds.
Dylan Stone rushed for 169 yards on 24 carries, while Thomas Ozmint ran 13 times for 109 yards. Stone also completed 3-of-7 passes for 49 yards.
Mason Brown finished with 20 tackles, followed by Andrew Willis with 13 and Taylor Daugherty with 11.
