West End to play in Elite Eight

West End qualified for the Elite Eight state tournament for the third straight year at the Class 2A North Super Regional Tournament last week (Oct. 25-26) in Huntsville. 

The Lady Patriots finished in second place after pushing Lexington to five games in Saturday’s championship match. 

West End faces West Blockton in the first round of the Elite Eight on Wednesday (Oct. 30) at the Birmingham CrossPlex. 

The Lady Patriots opened the regional tournament with a 25-15, 25-18, 25-17 sweep of Altamont, followed by a 25-11, 25-13, 25-20 victory over Ider. West End then posted a 25-23, 20-25, 25-19, 25-20 win over Hatton in the semifinals.

In the title match, the Lady Pats won the first game, 27-25, before losing 23-25 and 21-25. West End battled back with a 25-15 victory to force a deciding Game 5, where Lexington edged the Walnut Grove/Altoona squad by a score of 15-13. 

Southside lost in the quarterfinal round of the Class 5A Super Regional Tournament last week (Oct. 25-26) in Huntsville. The Lady Panthers opened with a 25-13, 25-14, 25-7 win over Sylacauga before losing to John Carroll Catholic, 16-25, 22-25, 17-25. 

Glencoe fell to Winston County, 15-25, 8-25, 10-25, in the opening round of the Class 3A Super Regional Tournament on Oct. 25 in Huntsville.

Coosa Christian lost to Tharptown, 11-25, 20-25, 26-24, 17-25, in the opening round of the Class 1A Super Regional Tournament on Oct. 25 in Huntsville.
