Gadsden State to host International Education Week events

Gadsden State Community College will join other colleges and universities, embassies, international organizations, businesses, associations, and community organizations all over the country to celebrate the benefits of international education and exchange worldwide during International Education Week Nov. 11-15.

This year’s theme is “International Education:  Learning Matters around the World.”  The week provides an opportunity for international students at Gadsden State to showcase culture from their countries in an effort to promote international understanding and build support for international educational exchange.

The celebration will begin on Nov. 12 with an International Office Open House from 12-3 p.m. in Naylor Hall.

There will also be a poster competition in recognition of the week focused on different countries and cultures.

The deadline to submit posters is Nov. 12.  An International Tea with language tables will be held Nov. 13 in the Inzer Hall Breezeway from 3-5 p.m. which will include tables by students who speak over ten different languages, including Arabic, Chinese, French, Japanese, Korean, Spanish and Urdu.

Guests will be able to visit the table displays to learn common phrases in each of the languages, sample teas and coffees from different countries, and learn about each country’s tea or coffee practices.

Events scheduled for Thursday include a panel discussion on “Education around the World” beginning at 10 a.m. in the Browder Hall Auditorium with students from Germany, South Korea, Equatorial Guinea, Ukraine, and Pakistan.

An International Shopping Bazaar will take place in the Inzer Hall Breezeway from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.  The winners of the student poster competition will be announced at 12:30 p.m. in Inzer Cafeteria.

All events are free and the public is invited to attend.
