Area runners compete at state meet

Four area runners finished in the top 25 of their respective classes at the Alabama High School Athletic Association’s state 5K cross country meet on Saturday (Nov. 9) in Moulton.

Southside’s Hunter Nails posted the area’s best boys time with a 25th place finish in Class 5A at 17:18.60. Gaston’s Jacob Johnson finished 14th in Class 1A-2A at 17:36.70, while teammate Taylor Pritchett came in 21st with a time of 17.58.90. 

On the girls’ side, Coosa Christian’s Autumn East finished 17th in Class 1A-2A with a time of 20:25.60. 

Other local boys participants included Gaston’s Allen Alexander (20:06.30), Taylor Tindall (21:02.00), David Parnell (23:32.80), Rich Austin (24:27.60), Hunter Fells (25:40.00) and Josh Hall (27:40.30) in Class 1A-2A; Glencoe’s Garrison Clowdus (18:26.10) in Class 3A; Sardis’ Tristan Kelley (18:41.10), Jacob Bean (19:39.50) and Jaxson Haygood (19:55.30) in Class 4A; and Gadsden City’s Christopher Clements (16:56.50), Zach Kamran (18:16.40), Connor Jarecki (18:45.50), David Minton (18:57.50), Will Roach (19:25.00), Ali Sengar (19:38.70), Devron Howze (19:52.80), Justin Kelley (20:00.40), Angel Esparza (20:21.50) and Nathan Snow (20:26.90) in Class 6A.

Area girls finishers were Westbrook Christian’s Michelle Warren (22:38.90), Mary Reid Goodwin (22:57.50), Olivia Chambers (24:27.80), Mary Grace Mayfield (24:29.60), Kearse Ellison (24:42.70), Anna Kate Wright (26:06.80) and Abby Lockridge (29:15.50) in Class 1A-2A; Glencoe’s Sydney Burns (25:14.60), Kenleigh Harper (26:27.82) and Hannah Grant (26:37.77) in Class 3A; Sardis’ Alexis Powell (23:16.59), Stephanie Holcomb (25:10.97) and Baylee Naylor (25:11.01) in Class 4A; Southside’s Presley Johnson (23:36.80) in Class 5A; and Gadsden City’s Sydney Hill (22:54.80) in Class 6A.
