The City of Gadsden is making it easier to be green with the opening of an expanded drop-off recycling center on Henry Street, just off Meighan Boulevard.

The city purchased the building at 306 Henry Street in July, with plans to open the recycling center to allow for a greater volume of recycling in a convenient location for city residents.

The center has bins outside the facility marked for various recyclable materials: paper, plastic, electronics, batteries, glass and even clothing.

At the time of the purchase, Gadsden Mayor Sherman Guyton and members of the city council expressed their hope that the expanded center will spur people to recycle more and keep more materials out of rapidly filling landfills.
