Col. Mize funeral arrangements announced

The funeral of U.S. Army Colonel and Medal of Honor winner Ola Lee Mize (Retired), 82, of Gadsden, who died Wednesday (Mar. 12), will be conducted with full military honors by the U.S. Army’s 5th Special Forces Group deployed from Fort Campbell, Kent, complete with a 21-gun salute. An Alabama National Guard unit will be responsible for the flag Honor Guard.

Funeral arrangements for Col. Mize are as follows:

6 – 8 p.m. Friday, Mar. 14: visitation at Southside Baptist Church

10 a.m. Saturday, Mar. 15: funeral at Southside Baptist Church

10:30 a.m., Mar. 15: funeral procession to Crestwood Cemetery, Gadsden 

Funeral procession route:

Southside Baptist Church (3975 Hwy. 77, Southside, Alabama 35907); north to Rainbow City; right turn on U.S. Highway 411. Proceed to the intersection of Albert Rains Blvd. (U.S. 411) and Walnut Street in Gadsden. Proceed one block. Turn right on 1st Street; proceed past Chestnut Street (at Gadsden City Hall), then turn right on Broad Street at the Memorial Bridge. Proceed on East Broad Street until arriving at Crestwood Cemetery located at 2209 East Broad Street, Gadsden, AL, 35903.

The Gadsden-Etowah Patriot Association wishes to acknowledge the many governmental entities in Etowah county that have lowered their flags to half mast and the various police departments for their help in escorting the funeral procession. The association requests as many people as possible turn out along the funeral procession route with American Flags to honor Co. Mize and his family.
