Scott Clifton is one-and-done with the Conquerors.

Last week, the Coosa Christian head football coach resigned after one season in Gadsden.

Clifton, who guided the 2013 Conquerors to a 3-7 record last season that included a 3-1finish, said that the decision to step down was his.

“My daughter and my parents and my in-laws are all going through some health issues, so I really need to be around my family more and be closer to home in Leesburg. My son went away to college this year, so you realize real quick how fast they’re gone.”

Clifton, who will retain his teaching position at Cedar Bluff, noted that he already has been contacted about potential job offerings for a high school football coach.

“I really enjoyed my time at Coosa and loved the kids down there. The community was very supportive and I’d like to thank then for all they’ve done for the program. I feel like I let those kids down, but I have to do what’s best for my family.”
