A ceremonial groundbreaking was held on a sunny Thursday, July 17 by the Gadsden-Etowah Chamber of Commerce for American Family Care, a new family medical care clinic expected to open in Gadsden Dec. 2014.

The clinic’s location will be at 366 E. Meighan Blvd in the Walmart Shopping center.

The clinic is being built just in time for Meighan’s new shopping center, River Trace, to open.

Gadsden Mayor Sherman Guyton helped break ground at the ceremony, and said, “[American Family Care] is going to be a great asset to Gadsden. We want to keep developing all we can.”

American Family Care President Randy Johansen also spoke during the ceremony. “We’re excited about being in Gadsden,” he said. “This is a great location.”

American Family Care is a network of family and urgent care clinics based out of Birmingham which offer urgent care services for patients who need immediate care. AFC can treat most illnesses and injuries that would be treated normally in emergency room. The Gadsden location will be its 59th clinic.

American Family Care Director of Marketing Felicia Fortune said the clinic will also provide occupational medicine to companies in and around Gadsden.

The new clinic will be open seven days a week from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m.
