On Thursday, November 12, the Gadsden Public Library will host Once Upon a Prom at Gadsden Convention Hall from 6 to 9 p.m.

The 80’s-themed dance will include a night of dancing, music and food.

“It’s an opportunity for adults to dress up and go to the prom, especially for those that didn’t go to their own,” said Carol Wright, Gadsden Public Library Assistant Director.

The funds from the fundraiser will help pay for the Gadsden Public Library’s many programs, including the Children’s and Teen’s programs and the library’ outreach work to the Etowah County Detention Center with the Substance Abuse Prevention Program.

Music for the dance will be provided by Ellis Entertainment. The playlist will vary from the 1950’s to the 1980’s and even modern music.

“What we are trying to do is represent all the decades,” said Wright.

Wright actually suggested some songs for the playlist herself, including some Barry White and Marvin Gaye tunes. There is a rumor that the prom will include a dance contest, as well.

The food will be provided by the Novel Cafe, located inside the main branch of the Gadsden Public Library.

“They had the best and most interesting prom food, like Pac-Man cupcakes,” said Wright.

Tickets for the prom are only available until Monday, November 9, so get them while you can.

Homecoming Queen and King tables cost $1000 and include eight VIP tickets for a table, one VIP parking pass, beverages, food, a banner, participation in the Spotlight Dance and being crowned. Homecoming Court tables cost $400 and include eight tickets for a table, food, a banner, Homecoming Court recognition and entry into Who’s Who. Too Cool for School tables cost $200 and include eight tickets, a night of dancing and food. Individual tickets cost $25.
