Area football players earn all-region honors

Several area players were named various all-regipon teams for the 2015 season. 

Etowah High’s Stacy Williams’ was selected Offensive MVP of the Class 5A, All-Region 7 team. The senior running back finished with 1,453 rushing yards and 18 touchdowns while helping the Blue Devils to a 7-3 record, a second-place region finish and a berth in the state playoffs. 

EHS senior running back Paul Ruiz was co-Overall Athlete along with Madison County sophomore T. Provens. Ruiz ended up with 570 rushing yards and seven touchdowns along with 16 receptions for 259 yards and four scores. 

Joining Williams and Ruiz from Etowah on the first team were junior tight end Caleb Nelms, freshman receiver Emil Smith, junior center Peyton Nance, senior defensive end Chrishun Young, senior linebacker Darius Moore and junior cornerback Lee Green.

Guntersville senior running back Jordan Bentley was named Overall MVP, while Randolph senior Griffin Widner was selected Defensive Player of the Year. Coach of the Year was Guntersville’s Lance Reese. 

Several Southside High football players were selected to the Class 6A, All-Region 7 team.

Panther running back Alaric Williams was named co-Offensive Athlete. Williams’ junior season included 1,175 rushing yards along with 11 touchdowns. 

Also chosen from Southside were freshman running back Kenneth Bothwell, sophomore tight end Gavin Orr, senior punter Hunter Armstrong, senior linebacker Dakota Harcrow and senior Greyson Daugherty at defensive back. Armstrong was also named to the Headhunter category. 

Making the Honorable Mention team were Kevon Carlisle, Jonathan Barnard, Matt Gilliland, Kristian Wilmore, Dub Stephenson, Baylon Fry, Austin Brewer and Austin Winningham. 

Several Glencoe High and Westbrook Christian players were named to the Class 3A, All-Region 6  team. 

Selected to the first team for the Yellow Jackets were senior receiver/defensive back/kick returner Pace Ozmint; senior offensive linemen Jeff Ford and Bailey Britt, senior linebacker Taylor Daugherty, senior defensive lineman Luke Long, senior defensive back Dalton Roberts and junior defensive back Austin Bush. Representing the Warriors were senior quarterback Joseph Schauer, senior linebacker Sam Blackstock, senior defensive back Gilber Rosas and senior receiver Chandler Richards.

Making the honorable mention team were Chase Wilson, Noah Hauk, Aaron Bush and Jacob Bradley from Glencoe and Justis Glassford, Andrew Schauer and Jordan Kilgo from Westbrook.
