On Sunday, July 31, the community lost beloved member Ralph Lane.
Ralph Lane passed away at the age of 64 after a battle with liver cancer. Before he passed, Lane was an instrumental member of his community.
Lane worked to improve his community in different ways. He took part in many local organizations. He was a member of Gadsden-Etowah Chamber of Commerce, co-chair of Riverfest, member of Gadsden City Board of Education, Board Member Emeritus of Downtown Gadsden Inc., member of Kiwanis Club, co-chair of Pancake Day, member of the Gadsden-Etowah Tourism Board, member of United Way of Etowah County, member of the American Cancer Society, member of the Industrial Development Board, member of Junior Achievement and member of the Gadsden Commercial Development Authority and he worked for nearly 35 years for Alabama Power Company.
Downtown Gadsden Incorporated Director Kay Moore had many kind words to say about Ralph Lane.
“You couldn’t have found a better community leader,” said Moore.
Moore went on to say that he was a significant part in the beginning of Downtown Gadsden Incorporated.
“He gave back to his community well and he was a person you could always depend on,” said Moore. “If you had several people like Ralph in your community, you would have a great community.”
