Locals make all-state, all-county soccer teams

A number of local student-athletes recently were named to the all-state girls soccer teams as made by high school state members of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America and the inaugural All-Etowah County boys and girls teams

State runner-up Westbrook Christian had three players make the Class 1A-3A all-state first team in senior defenders Barclay Bellew and Sarah Blackstock and junior forward Alexis Beard. Named to the second teams were Westbrook sophomore goalkeeper Mattie Loyd, Westbrook freshman midfielder Makenna Beard and Glencoe junior defender Shamayne Cooper.
Making the Class 6A second team was Southside junior forward Kelsey Patterson.

Named to the inaugural Greater All-Etowah County girls soccer team from Gadsden City were senior defenders Bailee Martin, Olivia White and Sydney Williams; senior forward Ashley James; junior midfielder Audria Wood and junior forward Haileigh Kimble.

Representing Southside were senior midfielder Mary K. Maudsley; junior forward Kelsey Patterson, junior defender Destini Johnson; junior goalkeeper Alley Rubrigi and junior forward Lauren Brewer.

Selected from Etowah were senior defender Graiela Ruiz, junior midfielder Kimbely Cortez and sophomore defender Taylor Burke.

Westbrook Christian selections were senior defenders Sarah Blackstock and Barclay Bellew, junior forward Alexis Beard, junior midfielder Mary Grace Mayfield and sophomore goalkeeper Mattie Loyd.

Named from Glencoe were junior defender Shamayne Cooper, sophomore midfielder Katie Smith and 8th grade midfielder Ashley Morgan.

Named to the Greater All-Etowah County boys team from Gadsden City were senior defenders Campbell Ashley, Tyler Watts and Asa Watkins; senior midfielders Daniel Fuentez and Caden Pate; junior midfielder Ethan Janss and sophomore forwardsMiles Garmon and MarDayus Bothwell.

Picked from Southside were senior forwards Carter West and Alec Riihimaa, senior defender Dalton Hamilton, senior goalkeeper Tyler Huffstutler, junior defender Eric Griffin, junior midfielder Scott Santos and sophomore midfielder Miguel Alvarez.

Selected from Etowah were senior defender/midfielder Eduardo Puredes, senior midfielders Gabriel Castellano and Juan Avila, senior defender Daniel Cantellano, senior forward Lee Morgan, sophomore midfielder Christian Mondragon and sophomore goalkeeper Raul Hernandez.
