Silver Lakes Golf Course very much on the mend

Silver Lakes Golf Course was virtually destroyed by tornados that ravaged northern and central Alabama on April 27, 2011.

The tornado plowed through the middle of the Glencoe-area course around 4:30 p.m. and no structures were left undamaged. The clubhouse, the pump-house and small buildings and sheds throughout the course suffered an estimated $5 million.

Bluff girls fall to Pisgah in overtime

It took an overtime session to decide the winner of a match of Class 3A powerhouses in Northeast Regional semifinal girls basketball on Feb. 22. 

Second-ranked Pisgah defeated tenth-ranked Hokes Bluff, 78-73. The Lady Eagles finished the season 28-5, while Pisgah improved to 29-3.

Hokes Bluff trailed, 48-38, at the end of the third quarter.

Gaston weathered a sluggish third quarter to defeat Woodville, 47-31, in Northeast Regional semi-final basketball action on Feb. 21 at Jacksonville State University.

Etowah High School played inspired basketball against Centerpoint in the semi-final Northeast Regional basketball tournament at Jacksonville State University on Feb. 21, but the Lady Blue Devils fell short to the defending Class 5A state champions, 49-39. Etowah finished the season at 19-12.
