Peterson heads Blue Devils at sectional track

One first place and four second place finishes helped the Etowah boys track & field team to a fourth place showing at the Class 5A, Section on Apr. 27-28 in Scottsboro.

Darrin Peterson had a strong outing. The Blue Devil senior won the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.98 seconds and came in second in the 200-mter dash at 22.5 0 seconds. Along with Trey Parker, Ladonus Palmore and Tevin Peterson, Peterson was a member of the school’s 4X100-meter dash team that posted a runner-up time of 43.13 seconds. 

Also posting a second-place finish was Raheem Gibbs with a 45-foot, 10-inch toss in the shot put. 

Palmore finished just behind Palmore in the shot put with a 42-foot, 5-inch throw. 

Earning additional points for Etowah was Ivan McKinney (fourth in the high jump), fifth-place 4X400 relay team of McKinney, Tevin Peterson, Deavise Glover and Trey Williams, Xzavier Caldwell (fifth in the long jump and eighth in the triple jump), Darrin Peterson (fifth in the triple jump), Trey Williams (sixth in the 400-mter dash) and Tevin Peterson (seventh in the 200-meter dash). 

The Etowah girls finished 13th in the competition. 

JaQuese James had a pair of fifth-place showings, one n the 100-mter dash and another in the triple jump. Teammates Angela Walker took fifth place in the shot put. The Lady Blue Devils’ 4×100-meter relay team of James, Shuntara Howard, Jakiya Williams and Maelin Trammell came in seventh.
