Area athletes named Bryant-Jordan winners

Three local student-athletes recently received statewide recognition

Westbrook Christian senior Rae Leach, Glencoe High senior Jordan Sims and Gadsden City High senior Khalid Cannon were among 48 regional winners of Bryant-Jordan Scholar-Athlete Scholarship Foundation.

Leach was the Class 2A, region 6 winner, Sims the Class 3A, Region 5 winner and Cannon the Class 6A, Region 5 winner.

Glencoe used two big innings and sound pitching from Jeff Ford to capture a 7-3 victory over cross-county rival Hokes Bluff in high school baseball on Wednesday.

After finishing as state runner-up in the recent Alabama Community College Conference Tournament, Gadsden State came away with two of the conference’s top postseason awards.
