Ole Miss swept Alabama over the weekend in Oxford. The Crimson Tide fell to 22-16 overall and 8-7 in league play. Head coach Mitch Gaspard’s team lost the series finale, 4-3, in extra innings. Local sports hall of fame inducts four

Four people were inducted on Saturday (Apr. 13) into the Etowah County Sports Hall of Fame’s Class of 2013.
Jason Ivey, Kim Welch Nails, Dr. Lucian Newman III and the late Max Wayne “Barto” Wilson were honored at a banquet at Convention Hall in Gadsden.

Sierra Club hosts Earth Day festival

Earth Day celebrations got their start about 35 years ago, but organized recognition of April 27 in Gadsden came about just last year, according to Stephen Garrison of the local Sierra Club.
The Sierra Club started Earth Day celebrations, and has made plans for its second annual event from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 27
City increases noise/litter fines

If you want to be loud and trashy in the City of Gadsden, it’s going to cost you more.
The Gadsden City Council voted April 16 to increase minimum fines for excessive noise and littering.
Minimum fines for noise offenses during a 12-month period are: First offense -$250; second offense – $300; third offense – $350.
International House fundraiser planned May 4
A committee designed to create an International Student Center for International students at Gadsden State Community College is hosting a dinner to raise funds for the project. The event, to include International appetizers, will take place May 4 at Crosspoint Community Church in Gadsden.
