Ford bill would require fulfillment of PACT plan commitment to buyers
State Rep. and House Minority Leader Craig Ford (D-Gadsden) recently filed legislation to ensure that Prepaid Affordable College Tuition (PACT) contracts for tuition and fees will be paid.
The PACT program is one of several college savings programs sponsored by the state of Alabama.

John Jones student wins with Steam Plant video

Should John Jones fourth-grader McKenna Hodge ever choose to go into the news business, she’s got a head start on her resume.
McKenna won first place in an Alabama Power-sponsored contest that called on students to offer a presentation about the Gadsden Steam Plant as part of the company’s recognition of the 100 anniversary of the plant’s opening.

Riley Green is first act for Riverfest 2014
Riley Green will be the opening act for the first evening of the 29th annual Riverfest.
The Chamber, Gadsden-Etowah County, announced the Jacksonville native as the first confirmed artist to perform for the upcoming music festival.

It’s still business as usual at Riverview Regional during time of coming change in ownership
Though Riverview Regional Medical Center was included in the Community Health Systems (CHS) acquisition of 71 hospitals from Health Management Associates (HMA) on Jan. 27, the Gadsden hospital is expected to have a new owner before the end of the year.
The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) requires that CHS divest Riverview Regional within approximately seven months.
