Duties at Thirteenth Place shelter have evolved over the years

In 1977, a shelter opened on Gadsden’s 13th Street as a sister organization to the American Red Cross. Aptly named “Thirteenth Place,” the shelter housed kids who overflowed from the Red Cross during disaster relief efforts.

‘Night of Jazz’ among upcoming events

Looking for a special way to spend Valentine’s Day? How about “A Night of Jazz at the Gadsden Museum of Art?”
In conjunction with the museum’s current photo exhibit, “The Fine Art of Jazz,” the staff is staging a jazz concert and special viewing, from 6 to 9 p.m. on Feb. 14.

Local students earn awards at theatre festival

Students from CharACTers Children’s Theatre (CCT) in Rainbow City won a Freddie G Award for Excellence in Ensemble Work at the 2014 Junior Theater Festival on Jan. 17, 18 and 19 at the Cobb Galleria Centre in Atlanta, Ga.

Sydney Claire Noles got a bit of the star treatment in New York and at the Etowah County Commission meeting on Feb. 4, where she was recognized for being a grand prize winner in the Uncle Ben’s Beginner’s Cooking contest in 2013.
