Southside, Arab to meet in Class 5A second round

It’s on to the second round of the Class 5A state baseball playoffs for Southside and this week’s worthy opponent is Arab.
The best-of-three series begins with a doubleheader on Friday starting at 5 p.m., with an if-necessary Game 3 on Saturday at 1 p.m.
The Knights come in after winning a bruising three-game battle against Etowah.

Auburn Week 6 Review
Auburn lost a home series to South Carolina last weekend. The Tigers defeated the Gamecocks, 4-2, in the first game but lost the next two games by one run each. AU dropped to 23-19 overall and 7-11 in conference play. The Tigers travel to Fayetteville to take on Arkansas this weekend.

Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company retirees turned out on April 24 to kicked off the company’s celebration of the 85th anniversary of the plant’s opening in 1929.
Memorabilia was on display, including a Goodyear flag and an American flag that reportedly flew over the plant on opening day.

Alabama Power brings iCan to Gadsden schools

Alabama Power Company gave groups of female students at Gadsden’s three middle schools an opportunity to try a mechanical engineering exercise last week as part of the company’s ongoing “iCan” program.
Jacki-Lyn Thacker, of Alabama Powers Communication and Public Relations office, said iCan is targeted for eighth grade girls with high potential in math and science, with the
