Veteran receives more than diploma at EHS

Bobby Junkins grants the 1,000th adoption for Lifeline Children’s Services, an adoption agency with offices in several states as well as Gadsden and Birmingham. 

The adoptive mom was adopted through Lifeline thirty-one years ago and is the first Lifeline adoptee to return as an adoptive parent.

My cousin, Sylvia Stewart, was a well-known teacher of dance in Gadsden, but she was also a wonderful cook. One of my favorite dishes that she prepared was her delicious strawberry salad. Technical students seek funding for conference

Sixteen area technical students are Kansas City, Mo. bound to compete in the SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference. 

The conference, set for June 22-28, will allow Etowah County Career Technical Center students to engage in career and technical competitions, including welding, precision machinery, fire and rescue, and community service.

Downtown Gadsden Inc.’s Third Thursday concert series is underway and will feature Peanut & Rush-Two of a Kind from 6 – 8 p.m. on June 19.

Riley Green will be the opening act for the first evening of the 29th annual Riverfest.

Bertie Jenkins says she’s seen some hard times.

“But I’m still very much alive,” she said, after celebrating her 100th birthday on May 27.
