The Alabama State Department of Education, Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP), is seeking sponsors to operate the 2014-2015 At-Risk Afterschool Program for Alabama children.

Qualified sponsors are reimbursed for program operating and administrative expenses of preparing and serving meals to eligible children at their sites.

After the school day is over, the At-Risk Afterschool Program provides nutritious snacks or meals to children in needy areas, without regard to race, color, national origin, sex, age or disability.

At-Risk Afterschool Program providers givechildren a safe place to go after school and nutritious food to help students concentrate on homework or join their friends in physical, educational, and social activities.

Meals and/orsnacks may be served to children in such places as schools, learning centers, community centers, and churches.

Public or private, non-profit organizations or schools, and units of local, municipal, county, or state governments may qualify as sponsors of the program if they are located in eligible school areas where at least 50 percent of the children are eligible for free or reduced-price school meals.

To be eligible, sponsors must be organized primarily to provide care for children after school or on weekends, holidays, or school vacations during the regular school year; provide organized regularly scheduled activities; include education or enrichment activities; be located in an eligible area; show financial and administrative capabilities for operating the program; and attend training.
