2015 Football Preview: Stout defense should serve Southside well

With seven starters returning at linebacker and in the defensive secondary, Southside High needs only to find some defensive linemen to possibly have a very good defense this season.
All three starting linebackers – Hunter Armstrong, Austin Brewer and Dakota Harcrow – are seniors, as is strong safety Austin Winningham.

City council approves funds for riverfront park

On Tuesday, August 18, the Gadsden City Council unanimously approved a bid for riverfront park development on the Coosa River.
The bid was awarded to Bob Smith Construction, Inc. of Trussville. The project was estimated to cost $3.5 million, but through negotiations and changes to the plan, the council cut 1.1 million from the project cost.
Gadsden mayor responds to county’s deadline

Last week, the city of Gadsden was given until Oct. 1 to come to an agreement with the Etowah County Sheriff’s Office on a jail contract.
The previous contract expired two years ago, but the the city’s inmates are still housed.
