Ashville fell to 1-2 on the season and 0-1 in Class 4A, Region 6 play as the Bulldogs lost to the Jacksonville, 54-17 last Friday (Sept. 6).
The Bulldogs scored first on a three-yard run by Luke Harris. The extra point was no good but with 2:36 remaining in the opening quarter, Ashville led 6-0.
The lead did not last long, as Jacksonville’s Rontarius Wiggins ran the ensuing kickoff back 93 yards to paydirt. Mason Terrell added the extra point to give the Eagles a 7-6 lead.
Jacksonville struck again 31 seconds later, when Wiggins scored from 30 yards out to make the score 14-6 after the first quarter.
Ashville’s Nathan Williams kicked a 38-yard field goal with 9:03 remaining in the second quarter to make it 14-9, but that would be as close as the Bulldogs would get.
Before halftime, the Eagles added three touchdowns to extend their lead to 34-9. Two of the touchdowns were passes from quarterback Luke Jackson to Yessman Green from 49 and 35 yards.
Ashville’s lone score of the second half came in the third quarter on a 35-yard touchdown run by Luke Harris. Derrick Walker added the two-point conversion.
Jacksonville scored twice in the third quarter and one more touchdown in the fourth quarter to make the final score 54-17.
Ashville looks to snap its two-game losing streak this Friday (Sept. 13) as the Bulldogs travel to region rival White Plains.
