Council, IDA Director discuss incentives for industry lead

 By Donna Thornton/Messenger

Gadsden-Etowah Industrial Development Board Executive Director Mike McCain cannot disclose any information about an industrial prospect that is looking for a home, and may be looking at Gadsden.

McCain met in executive session Sept. 4 with members of the Gadsden City Council to get authorization on what incentives Gadsden can offer while trying to attract the industry.

This is a preliminary step in the industry recruiting process, he said.

As is almost always the case, confidentiality agreements prevent McCain or city leaders from saying much about the industry – what it does, how many jobs it could bring, or any other details.

“I can say the benefits of the industry would far outweight the incentives,” McCain said.

The industry in question could be making a site decision by the end of the year.
