To say that Toby Pee played a big part in Sardis’
record-setting win over Locust Fork last Friday (Sept. 7) would be an
understatement.

The senior halfback accounted for 415 yards of total offense
– 288 rushing yards and four touchdowns on 23 carries and 127 receiving yards
and two touchdowns on four receptions – in the Lions’ 68-48 victory. The six
touchdowns was a career-best for Pee as Sardis broke the program’s previous
mark for points scored in a single game.

As a result, the Alabama Sports Writers Association and the
Alabama High School Athletic Association recognized Pee’s stellar outing by
naming him its Offensive Player of the Week.

Two other area athletes were recognized.

Glencoe High’s Daniel Otwell was nominated for the ASWA
Defensive Player of the Week award for his big role in the Yellow Jackets’ 15-3
win over Weaver. Late in the fourth quarter with Glencoe up 8-3, the senior
punter picked up a bad snap and ran the ball nine yards for a first down. On
the next series, he scored a on 39-yard touchdown run to secure.
Otwell also placed two punts inside the Bearcat 5 yard line in the second half
to pin down the Weaver offense, and he had a catch on third down to keep a
drive alive.

Gadsden City senior running back Trevor Sandridge was part
of the AHSAA Prep Spotlight after he rushed for 163 yards on 24 carries and
scored three touchdowns in the Titans’ 35-20 win over Lee-Huntsville on Sept.
6.

ASWA members from Andalusia, Anniston, Birmingham, Centre, Cullman, Dothan, Florence, Fort Payne, Gadsden, Grove Hill, Mobile, Montgomery, Oneonta, Opelika, Scottsboro and Tuscaloosa nominated players this week.
