Two teams – Gaston and Section – that made a lot of mistakes in losses a week ago will be trying to find a way to limit those on-field errors in a Class 2A, Region 7 matchup at Shinbone Ridge.

Facing a team with similar problems may help the Bulldogs, both in this game and for the near future.

“We’re working on trying to get better as a team,” Gaston coach Josh Averett said. “We’re trying to figure out something that we can use to build on. We’ve had our moments, but haven’t put it all together yet.”

Section seems to be another team searching for itself.

Thanks to mistakes, the Lions got down 14-0 in a hurry last week, and North Sand Mountain went on to a 25-point victory.

Section tailback Cody Martin ran for 105 yards on just 10 carries. Lions coach Joey Kirby was quoted as saying Martin would’ve gotten more carries if the team wasn’t in a hole the entire game.

“He’s a good back,” Averett said. “They feature him a lot, running up the middle from the I formation, running toss sweeps and such. But the quarterback can throw and make plays, too.

“It’ll be another tough week. There are no easy games in this region.”

Against Sand Rock last week, sophomore running back Mitchell Smith led the Bulldogs in rushing with 40 yards on 10 attempts.
