Sparked by a big night from senior running back Noah Sprayberry, Hokes Bluff posted a 30-16 victory over White Plains on September 23 at HBHS.
Sprayberry finished with 155 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 30 carries. His first score came at the five-minute mark of the first quarter.
White Plains quickly took a 9-7 lead, but the Eagle defense did not allow another point until midway through the fourth quarter. Meanwhile, Leon Chen’s 29-yard field goal at the 1:07 mark of the second period made it 10-7 in favor of Hokes Bluff, and Conner Masters’ 13-yard touchdown pass to Anderson Morgan with 15 seconds left before halftime pushed the advantage to 17-9.
The Eagle defense contributed when Kaleb Coshatt intercepted a pass inside the White Plains 20-yard line and returned it for a touchdown. Chen’s PAT made it 24-9.
Sprayberry’s 12-yard TD run early in the fourth quarter extended the lead to 21 points before the Wildcats scored in the later stages of the fourth quarter.
Masters was 3 for 11 in passing for 51 yards. Morgan had two receptions.
Coleman McGinnis finished with seven tackles, including three for a loss. Morgan and Layton Horne both had five tackles, while Dakota Holcomb had an interception.
Hokes Bluff resumes Class 3A Region 6 play this Friday (Sept. 30) with a visit to Plainview.
