Gadsden State Community College will celebrate the opening of the new Cardinal Gateway on Feb.11 with a Mardi Gras-themed parade and two open houses to show the community some of the programs GSCC has to offer.
Activities will begin with an open house at 10 a.m. at the Automotive Services Technology building on the East Broad Campus.
A parade will begin on the East Broad Campus at 10:30 a.m. followed by a ribbon cutting, which will culminate with remarks and an open house at the Bevill Center.
The parade route will begin on Graves Avenue on the East Broad Campus and proceed to the Wallace Drive Campus with a ribbon cutting ceremony taking place at the Cardinal Drive entrance to the campus.
Following the morning festivities, a Mardi Gras lunch with “King Cupcakes” is being served in Inzer Cafeteria on the Wallace Drive Campus.
The cupcakes are free to anyone purchasing a meal and whoever finds the traditional baby hidden inside will win a $25 gift certificate sponsored by SODEXO Food Services.
The parade will include GSCC President Raymond W. Staats, Gadsden Mayor Sherman Guyton and the city council, legislators, county commissioners, Alabama Community College System Chancellor Mark A.     The theme is Mardi Gras festive and everyone is welcome to attend.
These events are free and open to the public.
“We are excited about the completion of this project as the first step in revitalizing our Gadsden State campuses,” Staats said.
“The Gateway greatly improves student and employee safety and access,” Staats added.
