Southside, Ashville win area volleyball tournaments

Southside defeated Fort Payne, 24-26, 19-25, 25-22, 25-18, 15-8 in the championship match of the Class 6A Area 14 Tournament on Thursday, Oct. 17 at Southside. Hannah Westcott, Anna Beth Cashman and Bailey Houston made the All-Tournament team for the Lady Panthers.
Southside (20-15) advanced to the North Super Regional Tournament next week in Hoover. The Lady Panthers face Pell City at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 23 at the Finley Center at the Hoover Met.

Ashville swept Oneonta, 25-11, 25-23, 25-19, in the championship match of the Class 4A Area 11 Tournament on Thursday, Oct. 17 at Ashville. The Lady Bulldogs (24-25) qualified for the North Super Regional Tournament next week in Hoover. Ashville faces Deshler at 12:45 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 23 at the Finley Center at the Hoover Met.

West End lost to Southeastern, 25-16, 25-12, 25-9, in the championship match of the Class 2A Area 12 Tournament on Tuesday, Oct. 14 in Remlap. The Lady Patriots (19-20) advanced to the North Super Regional Tournament next week in Hoover. West End faces Pleasant Valley at 10:15 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 23 at the Finley Center at the Hoover Met.

Coosa Christian finished runner-up to Appalachian in the championship match of the Class 1A Area 11 Tournament on Tuesday, Oct. 14 at Appalachian. The Lady Conquerors (5-21) lost in the tile match by a score of (24-26, 11-25, 19-25. Coosa qualified for the North Super Regional Tournament next week in Hoover. The Lady Conquerors face Addison at 9:45 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 24 at the Finley Center at the Hoover Met.

Hokes Bluff went 1-1 at the Class 4A Area 12 Tournament on Thursday, Oct. 17 at Alexandria. The Lady Eagles defeated Anniston in the quarterfinals before falling to Alexandria in the semifinals. For Hokes Bluff for the tournament, Addison Simmons had 11 kills and three blocks; Mazely Ball had nine kills and four blocks; Chloe Dodd had six kills and four blocks; Mary Davenport had 15 assists; Makenna Bennich had nine aces and four blocks; and Haylen Marbut had six digs. Simmons and Ball were named to the All-Tournament team.
