Glencoe beats out Hokes Bluff, Plainview in volleyball

On Thursday, Sept. 24, Glencoe won its volleyball match against Hokes Bluff in straight sets, beating its county rival and Area 12 opponent in the process.

First set: Glencoe 25-Hokes Bluff 21. This was, as the score suggests, a close match. Both teams fought hard to take the win, but Glencoe was ultimately victorious.

Second set: Glencoe 25-Hokes Bluff 15. In this set, Hokes Bluff got an early lead. Afterwards, the score narrowed, and the teams stayed even at 10, 11, and 12 points each. Gradually, though, Glencoe pulled away from Hokes Bluff, eventually widening the gap by 10 points and scoring another win for the Yellow Jackets.

Third set: Glencoe 25-Hokes Bluff 10. This set was easily dominated by Glencoe.

With the third set finalized, Glencoe took home the best 3 out of 5 matches with a score of 3-0.

After that match concluded, Hokes Bluff faced off against Plainview, but in the end, they could not manage to bounce back and lost the 2 out of 3 match 2-0.

Glencoe also played Plainview after Hokes Bluff had finished its match; however, the outcome was much more favorable for the Yellow Jackets, and Glencoe won 2-0 in a pair of close sets, one of which went into extra points.

Glencoe had a strong showing, and its players’ stats were as follows: Millie Chambless had 11 kills; Mia Talbot had 16 kills; Katy Talbot 12 kills and 11 digs; Gracyn Bunt had 19 digs; Mia Talbot had 17 digs; Avery Barkley had 25 assists; and Kinlee Montgomery had 24 assists.
