Blue Devils prep for Wing-T at Randolph

Etowah (1-2, 1-0) at Randolph (2-0, 1-0)

Last week: Etowah 47, Douglas 6;

Randolph 29, Fairview 14

Series record: First meeting

Etowah High’s football players put together a complete game last week and put forth the effort it takes to win – something lacking in the second game of the year.

“The lack of effort in the Cullman game was inexcusable,” Blue Devils coach Drew Noles said. “But the kids responded in practice and got better. We’ve got to play hard to win.”

Even though they were both losses, Noles feels that the first two games were very helpful for his players.

Etowah gets another chance this week against a very confident Randolph team.

“That was something of an upset (the Fairview win),” Noles said. “They’re going to come in full of confidence. It’s a very important region game for us.”

Last week, Randolph’s Wilbur Allison ran for over 200 yards and four touchdowns out of the Wing-T offense.

“We don’t see the Wing-T very often, so it’s something to prepare for,” Noles said. “And they’re very aggressive with it. They definitely know how to run the system.”

Last week against Douglas, Paul Ruiz finished with over 100 all-purpose yards and three touchdowns.
