Area athletes medal at track and field meets

Several local track and field athletes medaled at meets last Friday (Apr. 2).
At the Scottsboro Invitational, Westbrook Christian’s Carl Henry won the shot put event with a throw of 47-01.50. He took second place in the discus with a toss of 132-10.50. Teammate Sage Robertson finished third in the both the javelin (134-08) and the 200-meter dash (23.69).
The Ashville girls and boys finished second and third, respectively, at the Lincoln Meet No. 4.
Winning individual first-place gold for the Bulldogs were Kayla Simpson (pictured above) in the girls 300-meter hurdles (53.61); Kaylan Ladosky in the girls discus (78-01); and Nick Spears in the boys pole vault (11-00.00).
Gaston’s Kodie Bogle won the boys javelin with a toss of 129-06.
First-place relay winners were the Ashville girls 4×400-meter team of Emma Drinkard, Molly Northam, Emma Thompson and Kathleen McCarthy (5:04.81) and the Ashville girls 4×800-meter team of Callie Stewart, Meghan McCarthy, Kathleen McCarthy and Emma Drinkard (11:03.78).
Earning the second-place sliver for Ashville were Emma Drinkard in the girls 100-meter dash (13.37); Taylor Knight in the girls 1600-meter run (5:44.81); Molly Northam in the girls 300-meter hurdles (54.98); and Kayla Simpson in the girls triple jump (30-03.00).

(1:10.69); Meghan McCarthy in the girls 3200-meter run (13:24.60); Clayton Knight in the boys 1600-meter run (5:19.53); Gabe Sawyer in the boys 110-meter hurdles (18.96) and the boys 300-meter hurdles (45.17); Clayton Knight in the boys pole vault (8-06.00); Jonah Carden in the boys discus (85-02); and the boys 4×100-meter relay team of Austin Kennedy, Greyson Simpson, Travis Smith and Xavier Bothwell (48.74).
