Four local high school rising seniors and one coach were selected to participate in the Alabama High School Athletic Association North/South girls and boys’ all-star soccer games this summer in Montgomery. The teams were chosen by a special coaches committee from nominations received from AHSAA member school tennis coaches.
Southside midfielder Camryn Davis (pictured above at right) and Glencoe forward Laney Bishop were named to the girls’ team, while Southside forward John Doster and Westbrook Christian forward Nathan Starzl were selected to the boys squad. Gadsden City’s Samantha Corker will be co-coach for the boys team.
The games will be held July 21 at the Emory Folmar Soccer Complex near the Auburn-Montgomery campus. The girls match is at 5 p.m., followed by the boys match at 7 p.m.
Davis finished with 18 goals and 22 assists to help the Lady Panthers go 15-2, win the area championship and reach the Class 6A Final Four in Huntsville. She was recently selected to Class 6A All-State second team.
Bishop helped the Lady Yellow Jackets finish 17-2 and make the state playoffs. Glencoe was ranked either No. 1 or No. 2 for much of the regular season. She was recently named to the Class 1A/2A/3A All-State first team.
Doster contributed 22 goals and 11 assists to a Panther team that won the area and made the second round of the state playoffs. He was recently received honorable mention all-state recognition.
Starzl was the Warriors’ leading goal scorer and helped the team qualify for the state playoffs for the first time in the history of the program.
