Area runners finish in top 10 at state indoor meet

Several local runners placed in the top 10 at the AHSAA state indoor state track and field meet on Feb. 2-3 at the Birmingham CrossPlex.
The area top performer was Gadsden City’s Kayla Price, who came in fourth in the Class 6A girls 400-meter dash with a time of 11 1:00.19.
Price’s teammate Karleigh Sheffield finished fifth in the 60-meter dash at 7.91, while Westbrook Christian’s Erik Kirkpatrick placed fifth in the Class 1A/3A boys shot put with a throw of 39-6.
For Southside, Evan Christopher’s time of 9:50.30 in the Class 4A/5A boys 3200-meter run was good for sixth place, while the sixth-place Ashville boys Class 4A/5A 4×400-meter relay team of Coby Caswell, Ryan Matthews, Maddox Vann and Kanyon White set a new school record with a time of 3:37.61, breaking the old mark of 3:44.00.
Also for Ashville, Taylor Knight finished eighth in the girls 4A/5A 1600-meter run at 5:35.50.
