Area softball teams compete in regional tournaments

Coosa Christian’s Alaina Hampton slides into second safely during the Class 1A North Central Regional Softball Tournament on May 12 in Tuscaloosa.

Several local teams participated in the AHSAA regional softball playoffs on May 11 and 12.
In the North Central Regional Tournament in Tuscaloosa, Class 1A Coosa Christian lost to Addison, 2-1, before beating Beat Berry, 8-3. The Lady Conquerors then fell to South Lamar, 5-3.
For the tournament for Coosa, Alaina Hampton had four hits with two home runs, Claire Davidson and Payton West each had four hits; Claire Stephens had three hits; Somer Stephens and Alyssa Padgett each had two hits; and Sydnee Curington and Mary Beth Williams each had one. Hampton finished the season without a strikeout.
Class 4A Hokes Bluff defeated Winfield, 8-5, and lost to Cordova, 15-0 and White Plains, 15-8. Class 2A West End lost to Collinsville, 13-5, and Woodland, 8-7. Class 4A Hokes Bluff.
At the North Regional Tournament in Huntsville, Class 4A Sardis went 1-2. The Lady Lions opened with a 4-1 win over Madison Academy, followed by a 7-3 loss to Wilson. Sardis then fell to North Jackson, 13-7, in the playback bracket. Class 6A Southside went 0-2, losing to Cullman, 4-2, and Austin, 8-0.
