Ashville, Southside wrestlers win at Super Sectionals

Three Ashville wrestlers placed first and two others came in second to help the Bulldogs finish runner-up at the AHSAA Class 1A-4A North Super Sectionals on Saturday, Feb. 12, at Bill Harris Arena in Birmingham.
The Bulldogs finished with 178 points, 14 behind Ohatchee and 14 ahead of Deshler.
Winning in the finals for Ashville were Dylan Harris, Layden Olson and Mason Wilson (pictured above). Harris (32-3) pinned Ohatchee’s Cody Freer at 3:25 at 182 pounds, Olson (36-7) pinned Ohatchee’s Ethan Thrash at 5:58 at 220 pounds and Wilson (39-3) pinned Susan Moore’s Anthony Flores at 0:55 at 285 pounds.
Finishing second for the Bulldogs were Tyler Ebner, who dropped a 5-8 decision to Deshler’s Dathan Laster at 138 pounds, and Travis Smith, who was pinned at 4:42 by Dora’s Delvin Taylor at 160 pounds.
Also winning a championship was Southside’s Jerrod Harden (37-5),
who pinned Decatur’s Hunter Claborn at 5:09 in the Class 5A/6A 285-pound finals.
The Ashville team and Harden will compete in the AHSAA state tournament this Friday and Saturday (Feb. 18-19) at the Von Braun Center in Huntsville.
